"I Haunt My Own House" Music by Andrew Potter Lyrics by Wheeler Cole ©2019 cole/potter music Dark rain blows against the house it rattles the windows inside a man made of smoke in the dim hallway light humming about knowing he died He looks at my hands .. with eyes far away seeming to have something to say at the end of a man … I now understand Death is time travel … you see the ghost in the hallway is me I haunt my own house came back to the past to try and warn myself of things gone wrong I haunt my own house cuz life doesn’t last teaching lessons I knew all along  Strive to be kind cuz we don’t have much time to hold on the hands that we love Never miss a chance  to ask someone to dance particularly if they’re not brave enough I haunt my own house It ain’t really bad my spooky self keeps me company My house, it haunts me don’t think that it’s sad it’s just Death fulfilling Destiny sneaky ironic should be a tonic slipped in our coffins for free But don’t worry Jack! when we all come back we’ll keep our younger selves company I Haunt My Own House!

You Might As Well Dance Music by Andrew Potter Lyrics by Wheeler Cole ©2019 Cole/Potter Music woke up thinking … the world’s sinking and things ain’t going well The sun’s still shining … so I ain’t whining  about a world going to Hell in the city … things ain’t pretty Congress is full of clowns in this fresh air … I don’t despair  as the ship is going down sneaking across the frozen lake trying not to make it crack if you fall through … lights out for you but you gotta take the chance so you might as well dance. bad mechanic…  on the Titianic. duct tape just won’t do trying to plug the leaking … while the crew are freakin the life boats leave without you if you scurry … it’s hard to worry  about things that you don’t know listen to voices … who make choices based on a reality show sneaking across the frozen lake trying not to make it crack if you fall through … it’s curtains for you  but you gotta take the chance so you might as well dance watch as the politicians prance so you might as well Dance where’s our savior … from bad behavior? I got me and mine! they can suture … up our future. in our grandchildren’s time

“A Wooden Sailboat” music by Andrew Potter lyrics by Wheeler Cole © 2019 cole/potter music A wooden sailboat sliding through the water is like watching a tree learning how to swim with the sky and the sea kissing the horizon every story has a lesson as memories they dim The mast sings I once stood in the Forest Branches blowing with the heart of crows Now the waves have become my mistress Following the stars off where to no one knows A father’s dreams drew my bones on paper  A brother’s hands molded wood to sea A boatbuilder’s son searches for fairer weather scanning the waves ahead as far as he can see The mast sings I once stood in the Forest with my brother’s we covered mountains vast then came the woodcutter searching for a sentry  and a tree become a story, and this story, now a mast If I could … stand where I stood quiet in the forest wide would I change … all that remains as the moon dances with the tide The mast cries I was born as a seedling born wild of heart before I had a name I've been scarred by a life of travel but deep within my spirits still the same A wooden sailboat gliding through the water is like watching a tree learning how to swim and a boatbuilder’s son searches for fairer weather scanning the waves ahead as far as he can see

Lunchbox 03:24
Lunchbox Music by Andrew Potter Lyrics by Wheeler Cole © 2019 cole/potter music Judith gets up climbs aboard the morning train pink umbrella; radio sez it’ll rain one kiss goodbye every morning the same inside her lunchbox she’s got a little piece of my heart I’m hollow inside  every time we’re apart Honey is sweet But that don’t do me no good when she ain’t home Candy tastes like it’s wood I’d change my tune but I don’t think that I could. Inside her lunchbox she’s got a little piece of my heart when quitting time comes that’s when my life starts cause only half of me is stayin’ home half of me stares at my phone my better half is in the business news And I’m home singing the LunchBox blues My love lives next to her P B & J short love note wraps up her cookie today If it seems really strange, well, that's love. What more can I say?

Marlene Dietrich Music by Andrew Potter Lyrics by Wheeler Cole ©2019 Cole/Potter Music       Wouldn’t it be great  … to reincarnate  come back as a song … long after I’m gone Born as a glove … looking D-love-ly on Marlene Dietrich’s left hand sit back and rewind … live life one more time angels hide wings … in the spirit of things a roll of the dice … and re-live my life on Marlene Dietrich’s left hand Film Noir sneaking around covert lovers flirt underground whispered question: do you think they are gay? naughty selves all come out to play To see and be seen … on the hand of a queen cleaned white as snow … we’d go out to a show with all the stars there … tiaras in hair on Marlene Dietrich’s left hand  Marlene had class …a flair for the flash she kissed a girl … while looking out of this world I wanna come back … and sing one more track on Marlene Dietrich’s left’s hand once you’re gone … Hey nobody knows what comes next after the show I hope to God when I get to act two I’ll have something naughty to do get out the popcorn … the decadent porn the please and thanking … after the spanking then coo like a dove … and I’ll be the glove on Marlene Dietrich’s left hand

An Unconventional Life Music by Andrew Potter Lyrics by Wheeler Cole © 2020 cole/potter music Had a friend a juggling magician one more, an eclectic musician  They were always spending time coloring outside of the lines. Spooky clowns met in many places made up with, tattoos on their faces Spending time practicing mime and coloring outside of the lines A butterfly, no icon is sweeter Tattooed on the head, Of a fire eater Always the plan of the Butterfly Man as he scribbled outside the lines ... I sure do miss my old pal Hokum Tickled the ivories; Man, he could smoke ’em Playing the muffler, he sounded divine as he colored outside the lines Can you … see how … life is magically strange? seek to … somehow … become a little bit deranged  It’s rife with unneeded strife so choose an unconventional life the clock is ticking, time it never tarries what will you do, Who you will marry A crazy love who you finds colors outside of the lines live life existentially informal why work at trying to be normal? choose friends who have like minds in coloring outside of the lines Can you … see how … life is magically strange? seek to … somehow … become a little bit deranged  It’s rife with unneeded strife so choose an unconventional life

Tip Toe Tango music by Andrew Potter lyrics by Wheeler Cole ©2019 cole/potter music Late at night You hold the ladder tight …  against your bedroom window sill sneak sneak sneak while your Momma and your Poppa sleep down by the willow tree you shyly creep with me    Where only stars can see come dance the tip toe tango with me … Do you by chance, know where you learned to dance? girl like you sure can move so fine. with only the moon doing the singing this time. there’s nothing between the night and your kisses holding me tight  fireflies sparkle with glee Come do the Tip Toe Tango with me … I know you sometimes feel that fairies are real as we tango in the moonlight  Skin like cream a Midsummer’s Dream Let’s dance the tip toe all night all goes to show what your Momma does know but might not remember from back when she was young but since you’re here tonight we know she did the tango alright

The Road to Derry Music by Andrew Potter Lyrics by Wheeler Cole ©2019 Cole/Potter Music we don’t know … where we go or the why of when we die but in the end I hope my friend we will meet again The sky is blue … but in fact out in space the sky is black hand in hand we’ll make a stand  on the road to Derry As I strode the muddy road a passerby caught my eye  she winked at me I wish desperately we will meet again funny how just by chance  changes come with a glance fate is such a fickle dance we will meet again the road is long … the hills are steep strangers smile…  lovers weep consul is for dreams to keep on the road to Derry A timid man becoming bold the moral starts getting old  when the story is twice told as we will meet again Fate sings such a silly song  Harmonize when things go wrong but Hey!  we knew that all along cuz … we will meet again time is short and life is sweet  love is free so smiles are cheap travel cures dusty feet  on the road to Derry.

A Song and a Prayer Music by Andrew Potter Lyrics by Wheeler Cole © 2019 cole/potter music Small feet run through the meadow laughing like sunshine rolls down the hill two hearts sitting there watching they are her gardeners nurturing still clutching a hand full of daisies she sticks her tongue out squints at the sun leaves blow like her dancing birds whisper secrets of stories begun May your hands be strong of heart The calm when things fall apart May your words bring peace when trouble starts Hope, flying these wishes swimming goldfishes flowing through time. message locked in a bottle  years make it better like a fine wine this prayer I struggle to free a worn pebble found at sea rusted lock; missing key a stubborn reflection of me seek truth in all you dare hold tight to all that’s fair  I will wait for you there this is my gift; a song and a prayer love, all that you carry  after I’m buried it will burn still soon, you’ll be a gardener and with your whispers, their hearts will fill     so, Love is a process we’re linking togethers forged like a chain each link building the next one leaving a lesson that will remain Hush now! listen my Darling Life goes by quickly gone in a flash You will carry it forward all that is precious… all that will last.

The Ace of Diamonds ©2019 cole/potter music Music by Andrew potter Lyrics by Wheeler cole I often wonder if you / think about me? As I float down this lazy river Regretting how I lost your hand not sure a gambler’s woman could understand The Ace of Diamonds beat the Queen of my heart I bought it, I broke it; I missed the best part  On the way down Hell! I cashed it all in Lost your heart betting I’d win. empty whiskey glass soggy cigarettes  know where the chips fall or don’t make that bet One card, two card then the ace of diamonds And I felt my poor heart fold Try to bluff a blind man with a blank look eyed me up and down read me like a book  always keep the ace close to the vest you were a royal flush wearing a dress. then I caught you smirking knew I’d been made. For good, for keeps that’s how the game is played Now, dating no one but this bottle of gin I lost your heart betting I’d win. liquor in my glass taste like regret I’m sorry Baby I ain’t over you yet. One card,  two card then the ace of diamonds And I felt my poor heart fold One card, the ace of diamonds

about

Hello, Welcome, and Thank You for visiting. I hope you enjoy this music as much as I did making it.

Liner Notes

" 'I Haunt My Own House' is a musical journey that began in the 1970’s at the University of Rhode Island between guitarist Andrew Potter and artist Wheeler Cole, collaborating and creating a repertoire of timeless songs, steeped in influences of folk and country blues and jazz, with a modern twist of traditional sounds.

From the self-perspective opening tune “I Haunt My Own House”, to the witty "You Might As Well Dance"and ending the musical journey with a gambling song of heart folding regret in “The Ace of Diamonds, Andrew Potter has a unique sound to his voice and guitar playing that fits beautifully with Wheeler Cole’s imaginative, storytelling lyrics. With each track on this album Andrew performs with a personal connection that the listener can easily relax into, and to sit back and listen. Beautiful! "
